All of our Lorée instruments come in a deluxe French fitted case with a fitted nylon case cover, three reed case, swab, instrument stand, polishing cloth, grease box, and screwdriver.  Lorée instruments may be special ordered with a Rosewood or Violetwood body, high-density plastic top joint, and/or 14k gold plated keywork.

What does AK bore mean? 
Lorée instruments are each marked with a serial number that is a combination of two letters and two numbers.  Instruments with serial numbers containing letters AK were manufactured beginning in 1939 and instruments of this vintage were and still are considered exceptional instruments.  To recapture this “golden age” of oboe making, the F. Lorée Company researched the bore proportions of the AK instruments and beginning in the early 1980s made their oboes available with bore measurements of the original AK instruments.

Lorée Royal instruments

The Royal oboe and English horn are the premier instruments offered by the Lorée Company.  Constructed of the most premium wood with more heavily plated silver keywork, these instruments feature a thicker wood body, dual reinforced tenons, adjustable thumbrest, gold plated octave inserts, and an additional adjustment screw to regulate the height of the middle C key.   Of course, Royal instruments may also be special ordered with Rosewood or Violetwood body and bell and/or 14k gold plated keywork.  In addition, Royal oboes are available by special order with a range to low A.

Dutch Thumbrest:   Available for both oboe and English horn, this thumbrest distributes the weight of the instrument along a longer surface area.  Also comes with a tortoise shell plate intended to open up the hand position for additional comfort.  $95.00

MARIGAUX OBOES

The Marigaux name has always been synonymous with excellence, and they are now one of the leading pioneers of oboe design. With their new 2001 model, Marigaux steps up to the plate, changing the key work for a more ergonomical fit. The 901 model continues the original design of Marigaux’s professional oboes, using exceptional craftsmanship and adherence to high standards of sound quality.

The 901 model is a standard professional model oboe made from grenadilla wood. It has a full conservatory, silver plated key system including a double bridge key from the lower joint to the bell which helps to improve response and pitch in the lower register. Call for current price.

The 2001 model is an outstanding design accomplishment. Its innovations include extended keys on the left hand, an adjustable thumb rest, and flattened right hand C, C#, and Eb keys to make sliding easier. The 2001 also has an adjustment screw to facilitate slurring to high D, much like the Philadelphia key that is commonly installed on Lorée instruments. Sound quality is improved in the low register with the white leather pads underneath the B, C and D keys. The reed receiver and bell have been re-shaped. Gold plating of the reed receiver and posts add attractiveness and sophistication to the appeal of this instrument, which is rapidly gaining popularity all over the world.  Call for current price.

The M2 Model is by far the most innovative and creative oboe in the market today. The instrument is assembled by aligning the octave key pillar with the plate on the main body of the oboe (essentially, the top joint and bottom joint are no longer separate – only the very top of the oboe is removable, right below the octave keys). Head-joints can be easily changed to suit individual needs so that tuning, color, depth and fluidity of sound are all adjustable. In extreme climatic conditions a phenol-resin head-joint can be used in place of a wooden one to avoid unnecessary cracks. The new position of the half-hole gives better tuning on D's and Db's and improved performance on top octave D's to Eb's. There is also improved positioning of G and G sharp keys, thanks to the removal of the middle joint ring. This granadilla oboe features a third octave key, full conservatory, silver plated key system and two head joints (granadilla and phenol resin). Call for current price.

RIGOUTAT OBOES

RDG Woodwinds is currently offering two models of excellent instruments for students and amateurs made by the Rigoutat company: the “Delphine” model oboe, and the “RIEC” model English horn (“RI” from “Rigoutat” and “EC” from “Ecole”.) They are both made of grenadilla wood and have nickel silver keys with heavy silver plating. All metal screws on the RIEC English horn are made of stainless steel, to help prevent rusting. The Delphine oboe has a first octave key especially designed for smaller hands, so it’s easier to reach. These instruments are great choices for schools and conservatories because of their durable, high-quality craftsmanship and affordable price. We think you’ll agree!

WS5013 Student Model
This instrument was especially developed for players with small hands and children in order to facilitate the playing of the instrument. The ergonomically adapted keywork enables easy and relaxed playing. By extending several keys on the wing joint, and for the little fingers, problem-free playing becomes possible. WS5116 Conservatory Model

WS5131 Master Model
This instrument is similar to the model S16 conservatory, but in addition, it is equipped with a large Bb/F# key guard plate and a high E key on the wing joint. The key mechanism is handmade, i.e. it is especially made for each instrument. Even the smallest inaccuracies can thereby be avoided. The keywork is mounted with rod screws and head pivot screws. Thus it is stabilized and side noises are avoided. Due to the handmade keywork, this model offers very high playing comfort. Call for price.

WS5171 Artist Model
The handmade keywork of this model is equipped with an additional Eb key. The touch pieces for the right hand thumb include rollers (round E cup), thus enabling faster and easier playing. The large Bb/F# key guard plate prevents from accidental

WS5191 Prestige Model
The handmade key mechanism has several additional features. The wing joint is equipped with a high E key and a connecting arm from the A key to the whisper key. The boot joint has a disconnectable Ab/Bb trill key so that a special touch piece for the right thumb is not necessary, thus the playing feeling is not reduced. The detachable balance holder enables better balancing of the instrument while playing. The wing joint and the small side of the boot are lined with hard rubber. Similar to all other models, the bottom of the boot joint and the wide bore to over Ab is lined with an epoxy resin Luracast, in order to prevent moisture damage. The 5 finger holes and the G-tone hole are optionally lined with silver tone hole inserts or a combination of silver and hard rubber tone hole inserts.
